My Ubuntu 18.04 Virtual Machine refuses to boot. Is it possible to salvage any files?

0

So basically, after attempting to get mysql working on my VM (which it didn't), I shut it down. I started it back up today to see what kind of progress I can get trying to fix it. However, during the booting process, it just hangs at
"Starting Hold until booting process finishes up".

So I thought maybe mysql was the problem since it failed during the boot process. I tried going into recovery mode to purge all mysql related files to see if it did anything, but even during removing it just hangs as well. I then shutdown
and restarted the virtual machine again, mysql doesn't show up in the boot process but it still hangs at "starting hold until..."

I am just frustrated at this point and just want to delete this and make a new VM. Though I would like to keep some of the files I have since I am doing research and I would rather not have to redownload the 25 GB plus files again.

My native machine is running Windows 10.
