Anybody done upgrade from 14.04LTS to 16.04LTS after installing server and then adding “ubuntu-desktop”?

0

I asked this at ServerFault but didn't get much of a response. So I'll try here: I installed Ubuntu 14.04LTS using a server image so that I could set up a RAID 1 array at installation. Then I installed ubuntu-desktop on top of that to get the GUI. Now I need to migrate since 14.04LTS will go off support soon.

Question: Has anyone been able to use "do-release-upgrade" on an installation that was done with the server installer and later had ubuntu-desktop added -- specifically for these two Ubuntu releases? Please reply if you have had experience with this -- success or failure. And if you happen to know of any Ubuntu docs that deal directly this, please direct me. My own search results weren't useful.
