愛德華·林恩·「愛德」·艾爾斯（英語：Edward Lynn "Ed" Ayers[1] ，1953年1月22日－），美國歷史學者、教授、里奇蒙大學第九任校長（2007年－2015年在任），2013年7月在美國白宮典禮上獲總統歐巴馬頒發國家人文獎章[2]。
艾爾斯在19世紀美國史方面目前共著有四本、編有七本書，其中《在我們敵人面前：美國中心的內戰》（In the Presence of Mine Enemies, Civil War in the Heart of America）以其對美國歷史傑出的書寫獲得了班克洛夫特獎[3] ，另外也獲貝弗里奇獎認定為1492年以來關於美洲史的最佳英文書籍。[4] 《新南方的承諾：戰後重建的生活》（The Promise of the New South: Life After Reconstruction）則為美國國家圖書獎、普利茲獎的決選入圍者 [5][6]。
艾爾斯於1974年在田納西大學取得美洲研究的文學學士，接著在耶魯大學取得了美洲研究的文學碩士與博[7] 。在其校長任內通過了一個五年計畫「里奇蒙的承諾」（The Richmond Promise），目標是確保學生能負擔高品質的教育，以及習得能取得優良工作的技能。艾爾斯除了在第一個學期任教外[8]，也是該校數位人文學實驗室的成員。
艾爾斯自1980年開始就在維吉尼亞大學任教，直到到里奇蒙大學擔任校長前。

大眾史學
近年來，艾爾斯擔任了美國國家人文中心「初步解放奴隸宣言」計畫的主席[9] 他也主持了南北戰爭維吉尼亞大會紀念會議的第一次研討會[10] ，目前則擔任「里奇蒙過去的未來」委員會主席，該委員會支持對南北戰爭與解放日的討論，以促進對里奇蒙共享歷史的認識[11] 。艾爾斯也是「瞭解南北戰爭」計畫的資深學者，該計畫由美國國家人文中心、美國圖書館協會大眾計畫辦公室贊助[12]。
艾爾斯還是艾爾斯還是全國性的聯播公共廣播節目「BackStory with The American History Guys」的三名主持人之一，節目每週在美國36個電台廣播，至今Podcast下載次數已超過270萬次[13] 。節目開始於2008年，內容為提供當下事件的歷史背景，並受維吉尼亞人文學基金會與國家人文中心支持[14]。
數位史學
艾爾斯也是個數位史學的倡議者[15] ，他協助成立了維吉尼亞大學的人文學進階技術學院以及數位史學中心，並擔任數位史學中心主任到2001年[16]。他也是「陰影谷」計畫的監督，陰影谷計畫透過信件、日記、新聞等材料提供使用者對美國南北戰爭中一北一南兩個社群生活的描寫[17] 。另外，也是[ 林肯文書]編輯之一[18]。
艾爾斯在里奇蒙大學數位史學實驗室的工作專注在顯示出美國歷史中的趨勢與模式。計畫內容包括選舉、奴隸解放的視覺化、以及維吉尼亞分離會議。實驗室正在開發以美國歷史為主題的數位地圖集，該計畫由安德魯・梅隆基金會贊助[19]。
