Gedit view window buggy

0

Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver LTS

Gedit 3.28.1

I have just upgraded from U14.04 to 18.04. Gedit is now unusable because of a buggy view port:

  • When you scroll a long document, text scrolling up is superimposed on the previous view until it becomes a mass of wriggly scribbles.

  • Clicking on the text to position the cursor, and then using the arrow keys to move left/right/up/down leaves ghost images of the cursor between the letters.

  • If you insert text within a line, the inserted text appears to overwrite the existing text; however, the existing text moves along to extend the line but simultaneously overwrites the existing text leaving illegible scribbles (like scrolling above).

Also hate the new menu bar layout in Gnome. Please restore all the menus and options the way they were. (This actually applies to all apps that use the window manager to draw the menus. Apps like LibreOffice that handle the menus themselves still look normal.)
