Images (desktop background, random webapp canvases, etc) are sometimes replaced by a strange static pattern

0

Ever since installing Ubuntu 18.04, random images are being replaced by this strange colorful static pattern (usually goes away on restart). I believe it usually occurs when waking from sleep. It happens with webapp backgrounds (like for the map part of Google Maps if I have it open when the computer goes to sleep) as well. Any clue what is going on here / how to fix it?

Here's an example of what it looks like for the desktop: https://i.stack.imgur.com/qMWkd.png

It's always this same pattern.
