Can't get NVIDIA drivers working on Bionic 18.04

0

I have an (oldish?) W530 Thinkpad with an NVIDIA Quadro K1000M card and recently installed 18.04. Since then I've faced the following problems

  1. external Philips 216V monitor doesn't work via VGA port - says it has no signal.

  2. The NVIDIA X Server Settings display is pretty much empty. What I mean is that it has none of the expected settings for external terminals, resolution etc. I've attached an image of the app. NVIDIA X Server app

I've spent several weeks reading through a multitude of forum appends which relate to NVIDIA issues on Ubuntu...have tried many, many suggestions, and still haven't got this working. Beginning to wonder if my laptop and/or my video driver is becoming obsolete for the newer versions of Ubuntu and NVIDIA drivers?

Hopefully someone can provide me with some clarity on how I can resolve this issue.

I'm not sure what diagnostics are needed - I tried inserting xorg.log.0 (enclosed in code labels) but got the error 'This looks like spam.' when I tried to post. So, no log included I'm afraid but can try to provide any output you require...so long as it doesn't look like spam.

Thanks for your help
Mike
