Ubuntu 18.04 How big should my root partition be compared to home?

0

I’m only asking because I hear how each installed softwares especially from the repositories take up smaller spaces in the drive. I also know that they usually get installed in /usr paths or anywhere else inside of root.

I plan to install 30-50gb of root partition and the rest of space in the home partition on my SSD(500gb). I also plan to format and mount 2 drives (4tb HDD and 1tb SSD) to my Ubuntu system as storage. The HDD will be symlinked for home directory.

Overall, how much space should I allocate in root partition compared to home? I was thinking 100gb in case I install a lot of software but some of you might say it’s overkill and that 20-30ish amount should be good enough.

Again I’m asking this because in some installation setups I’ve seen, the entire drive is used up for root partition without the home partition.I’ll admit I don’t find too many questions like this.
