How do I setup an account that guests can use in Ubuntu (Mate) 18.04?

0

Ubuntu previously had a special Guest Session provision, but that was broken a couple of years ago in lightdm, and then Ubuntu switched to GDM which has no such thing. So now, some classroom, library, and other such use cases are stuck at Ubuntu 16.04 (or Windows 7). I also often let other people use my laptop.

Right now, I have a standard account called "Guest".

What do I need to do to setup an account to have most of the same benefits? I know I could put something in their login profile to reload their home directory, and change the permissions on it so they can't change it, but I'm sure I need to do more hardening with groups and permissions, etc. Maybe a bullet list would be OK and I could work out the details.

Thanks.
