Weird login loop [duplicate]

  • TTY doesn't wait for password

    4 answers

I've been looking for anybody with the issue but found none.
In my case:
I can enter the username and then the password prompt is shown but before I can type the password, it shows "incorrct login" and login prompts 6 times before it stops and asks for login username again, as if I've pressed Enter 6 times at the password request (which obviously I don't).

I'm using Ubuntu server 18.04, no gui. Updating daily.
hosted in Hyper-V which have 2 more ubuntu servers that doesn't have the issue.

Anyone have an advice please?
Tried all recovery options and also resetting the password. nothing fixing it.

  • Have you had this server for a while? What did you change just before this problem started?

  • I actually changed nothing. I have installed Inspircd two days ago but had no issue even after a daily reboot. I found it that way this morning.

Your symptoms sound similar to this recent kernel bug: TTY doesn't wait for password

  • @steeldriver it does indeed!
