my friends laptop (Dell) has stopped connecting with her Huawei dongel when she needs it. I tried it on mine and made it work with my 18.04.2 version, her's has 16.04 on it because she doesn't want the layout to change. Been trying different things but thinking maybe the only way is to upgrade the operating system? or could it be the USB port connections? If anyone as a fix for this thanks. P.S don't know much about how to put in code as i use Mac's at work so that might not be much help, are there links for this stuff in Ubuntu? Cheers.

I'd first try booting an 18.04 live system on her laptop and test if the dongle works. If it doesn't, try the same thing on your laptop (also with the live system) to rule out problems caused by the live system. If it works on your laptop but not on hers, it may be a hardware problem. By the way, do other USB devices work (keyboard, flash drive,...)? If this problem started recently, you could also try booting an older kernel on her laptop from grub.

  • Thanks Danzel, did think to check with other USB, will try it. How do you do this live system test?
