约翰·泰勒·盖托




约翰·泰勒·盖托（英语：John Taylor Gatto，1935年12月15日－2018年10月25日），美国作家和教育家，是一个有着30年课堂教学教龄的退休老师。他强烈的批评强迫式学校，青春期和成人期的强制割裂，以及强权式的对教育以及教育职业的讨论。

生平


盖托生于匹兹堡地区的钢铁城市宾夕法尼亚州的Monongahela。在他的青年时期，他在多所公立学校以及一所天主教会寄宿学校读过书。在康奈尔大学，匹兹堡大学，和哥伦比亚大学读过本科，并在美军的医疗部服役过。退役后，在纽约城市大学，Hunter College，Yeshiva University, 加州大学，还有康奈尔大学进行研究生的学习。


他当过作家并做过其他各种工作，直到他借了室友的证书去调查教书。他还作为纽约州保守党的成员在1985，1988年参加过纽约州议会，29区的选举。[1]他被评为纽约市1989，1990，和1991年的最佳教师，以及纽约州1991年的最佳教师。[2]在1991年，他给华尔街日报写了封名为我不干了，我去思考的信，宣告他的辞职。在信中，他说他不希望再继续“以伤害儿童为生”了。他于是开始了公开演讲和写作的职业生涯，并获得了许多liberarian组织颁发的奖章。


他推崇在家自学，尤其是unschooling。

主要观点


学校对学生有什么作用？盖托在《愚弄我们》一书中，提出一下几点：



  1. 让学生困惑。学校提供了一套彼此脱离的信息让学生去记忆以求能够继续呆在学校里。考试除了起到和电视机类似的功能外，占用了学生所有的自由时间。学生看见听见一些，然后就都忘记了。

  2. 学校教学生接受班级的归属

  3. 学校让学生变得冷漠

  4. 学校让学生在情感上变得有依赖性

  5. 学校让学生在智力上变得有依赖性

  6. 学校教学生养成了一种来自专家认可的自信

  7. 学校让学生明白他们不能逃避，因为他们总是被管理着的。[4]
