Network icon shows ?. Can't connect to web sites [on hold]

I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.4 (on another drive - I can access it in GRUB) and lost all network connection ability. System settings says I'm connected, but the top icon displays a "?".

The ? means that although you may have gotten connected to your network, you have no Internet connectivity. Are you connecting with ethernet or wireless? Is this a new install, or an upgrade? Did this ever work for you? Edit your question and show mesudo lshw -C network
