Keyboard back-light was working but then stopped working hp spectre x360

0

I have debian 9 installed on my hp spectre x360, and the keyboard backlight used to turn on and off when I hit the 'f5' key, but now the light is unresponsive and remains off no matter what I try. I'm not sure why this happened.

I have tried:

sudo xset led 3

But this does not turn on the backlight. Is there something else I should try?

Edit: I have even reformatted and installed windows 10 and then reformatted again and put debian 9.0 on, but the key still won't toggle the keyboard backlight anymore.
