Ubuntu 16.04 Login loop Dell 5720

I've had the Dell Precision 5720 for about 1.5 years and it has been working correctly. I had to shut it off Friday evening because of a scheduled power outage of over the weekend. I took a long time to shutdown, I thought that it might be doing upgrades. This morning when I tried to start back up I get into the login loop, logging in just goes back to the login screen.
First I don't have an Nvidia graphics card, it had an Intel HD Graphics 630 and an AMD GPU. I've also tried deleting .Xauthority and .ICEauthority. I've checked the permissions on my home directory, they are correct.
I've also tried re-configuring lightdm and installing gdm. Re-configuring lightdm doesn't do anything, gdm doesn't run at all.
At this point I'm stumped, I've read through just all of the posts that seem to be generic and not specific to the Nvidia cards and can't find anything that will help. If anyone can come up with some new suggestions I'd appreciate it.
