Grub corrupted after Acer/Windows update
I have an Acer Nitro 5 with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04 in dual boot mode. After a recent Acer update (or possibly a Windows update that occurred around same time), it boots to grub menu where I select Ubuntu but get following error
[ 1.345875] Problem loading UEFI:db X.509 certificate (-65)
[ 1.345875] Problem loading UEFI:db X.509 certificate (-65)
and then
Gave up waiting for root file system... ALERT UUID=... does not exist. Dropping to a shell
Note that Secure Boot is disabled.
So then I tried to use Boot-Repair (went into windows, used rufus to burn iso to usb with GPT - UEFI only). After booting and reaching the Boot-Repair menu, I edit the script (press e) and change quiet splash to nomodeset. However, when I reach the Boot-Repair desktop, the UI does not offer the option to run the recommended steps. All I can do is get boot info which contains
====== Boot Info Summary: =======
=> No boot loader is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda
See full boot info here
I then try to follow this to repair from a live cd but gparted does not see the laptops hard drive; rather it only shows the usb.
Can someone recommend next things to try?
boot dual-boot grub2 uefi
