Use fingerprint authentication for sudo and screen-unlock, but not GUI login

0

I cannot use my fingerprint to login because I have an encrypted folder that needs my password anyway. It's actually annoying to have the option because the password-typing box is often not accessible until I have failed at the fingerprint.
I do not want to type my password after initial login, ie when I am unlocking the screen or authenticating sudo, because there are cameras everywhere.

Therefore, how can I set up my fprintd / pam so that

  • fingerprint is not an option at the display manager login

  • fingerprint is used for all other authentication

I do not understand the options given to me by sudo pam-auth-update. And turning off the login-fingerprint behaviour in settings->users does nothing but delete all fingerprint data, so it cannot be used anywhere.

I'm using 18.10 on a Lenovo T450s.
