Wine doesn't work after 18.3

-1

I try to install Wine on my Linux Mint 18.3 following these commands :

1) sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
2) wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/win...
3) sudo apt-key add winehq.key
4) sudo apt-add-repository 'deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubu... xenial main'
5) sudo apt update
6) sudo apt install --install-recommends winehq-stable

and once everything is done I can't manage to use Wine. If I tap Wine in the search toolbar I get no result and if I enter the winecfg command I just get send to the wine configuration page... Can anybody help me and tell me what to do next, i'm new to Linux but really enthusiastic about learning how to use the terminal better.

Thank you really much.

The official instructions are located at https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu.

Esentially....

If your system is 64 bit, enable 32 bit architecture (if you haven't already). Open a terminal and enter the following:

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386

Download and add the repository key:

wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key
sudo apt-key add winehq.key

Now add the repository:

sudo apt-add-repository 'deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ xenial main'

Update packages:

sudo apt update

Then install:

sudo apt install --install-recommends winehq-stable

It sounds to me like you have followed the same steps. If your computer and Ubuntu/Mint installation is 64 bit, then skip enabling the 32 bit architecture and install it like normal.

I had some issues awhile back with Wine working in Mint 18.3 on my laptop. Since I experienced other issues with Mint 19, I have since upgraded to 19.1 and it seems to work a lot better now with Wine. You might consider upgrading and then installing the latest version of Wine after.
