Thunderbolt networking on Ubuntu
I have a Gigabyte Titan Ridge TB3 AIC running on Ubuntu Server 18.10.
I have it configured so that if I plug a TB3 equipped computer into the card it negotiates a link-local IP address on thunderbolt0.
However, I cannot seem to get both ports on the card working at one time. If I try and add a configuration for thunderbolt1 networking stops working over TB.
The system will give an IP address to thunderbolt0 and thunderbolt1 and the two systems I am trying to connect will also see the link and give themselves an IP address as expected.
However, the two cannot communicate.
If I plug only one system in with the same configuration then it works as expected.
This is the netplan configuration that works for 1 device.
network:
ethernets:
eno1:
addresses:
dhcp4: true
optional: true
enp115s0:
addresses:
dhcp4: true
thunderbolt0:
addresses:
link-local: [ ipv4 ]
dhcp4: true
version: 2
If I duplicate the thunderbolt0 section as thunderbolt1 it breaks.
The two systems I am connecting are MacBook Pros.
My assumption is that something about this configuration is incorrect and I don't have the experience to understand why.
