.bash_profile Path

I'm tryig to install an AVR programmer, and the installation ask me for the Path of the .bash_profile; I should run this command: echo 'PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin' >> ~/.bash_profile and get this answer /bin/csh or /bin/tcsh but I'm not getting anything.
