Grub 2 is evil and how to reverse it?
My system is broken. It is a grub problem. A broken grub prevents any Live disk from loading. I bought a completely new HDD which I initialized in Windows 7 with the broken grub. I then disconnected the HDDs with Ubuntu and Windows 7 so only the new HDD was on the system. Then I tried to run a brand new Windows 7 install disk. It won't boot. I get a message that a file is not found and am sent to grub rescue.
When my other HDDs were installed, the system would boot. After disconnecting them and reconnecting them, it will no longer boot to Windows 7 OR Ubuntu.
Either there is some grub code on the new HDD from initializing with Windows 7 with broken grub, or grub changes the bios. Which is likely and how do I fix it when the only thing that will boot other than Boot Rescue Disk is grub rescue?

UEFI or BIOS system? UEFI or BIOS installs of both Ubuntu & Windows? Everything needs to be in same boot mode. For installers, how you boot install media is then how it installs. And for installed system, your settings in UEFI/BIOS determine boot mode. What brand/model system. Grub does not modify BIOS, but may have boot loader in MBR if BIOS. If live installer does not boot, then it may be that is is not correctly made, or settings in UEFI/BIOS are incorrect. Try Boot-Repair.help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair

Nevermind. I just found the first step. I repaired the MBR with Boot-Disk-Repair, and I can now use Live Disks.
