Automatically run xinput when touchscreen is connected

0

My laptop has a touch screen that works fine, and I just inherited an external touch monitor as well. I have a working xinput command to map my external touch controller with its corresponding output, but I have to run this manually every time I connect the display or boot. Is there an effective way to automate this? It will have to run every time GNOME starts up, either from system boot or unlock.

xinput map-to-output "Melfas LGD AIT Touch Controller" DVI-I-1-1

I've already tried putting it in ~/.bash_profile and ~/.profile, but neither seems to execute it properly.

Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS / Kernel 4.18.0-16-generic
Intel graphics

(Edited to include details of when the script has to run)

UPDATE: I was able to get the command to run on login using swatchdog to watch the auth log for unlocking the keychain. I still cannot get the command to run on startup/login appropriately.
